Scholarship Assistance Program

Established in 2025, as a 501(c)(3) organization, the DeKalb Parks Foundation was created to cultivate philanthropic support for the growing need to access DeKalb Park District programs and to uplift the nearly one-third of our community living below the poverty line.

Our Mission

The mission of the DeKalb Park District is to connect the community, enhance the quality of life, and improve the environment. The DeKalb Parks Foundation is therefore committed to providing recreational opportunities to all residents regardless of economic circumstances. Consequently, a limited fund fee assistance program is available to those who qualify.

Recently designated as an 'economically distressed' community by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, DeKalb faces unique challenges. The Foundation is committed to advancing social equity, health and wellness, and environmental conservation, ensuring that all residents have access to the vital benefits of parks and recreation.

Do I qualify for the Scholarship Assistance Program?

Income level, family size, and other criteria determine whether or not fee assistance is awarded.

Many families that qualify for a reduced program fee are not taking advantage of the opportunity simply because they haven't asked to be considered. If you have wanted to participate in our programs, but couldn't because of financial circumstances, we encourage you to apply!

This program is offered to DeKalb residents only.

Please drop off your application form and supporting materials at the DeKalb Park District Administrative Offices at Hopkins Community Center, 1403 Sycamore Road.

The approval process can take up to one week!
